Long Beach, California – A 21-year-old woman who died in a collision involving a second vehicle and a Metro train in Long Beach was identified on Tuesday. She was identified by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner as Katherine Rodriguez.

The crash occurred around 11:55 p.m. Friday near the intersection of 12th Street and Long Beach Boulevard, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

Authorities reported that the woman, a Compton resident, was driving a 2014 Infiniti Q50S southbound on Long Beach Boulevard at a high speed with no headlights on. At the same time, a 29-year-old man operating a 2019 Honda Accord made a turn onto Long Beach Boulevard from Anaheim Street, ending up in the Infiniti’s path.

To avoid a possible rear-end collision, the Accord veered away and hit a guardrail. Meanwhile, the Infiniti lost control and collided with a Metro train.

Emergency responders transported the driver of the Infiniti to a hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.

The Honda driver remained at the scene and fully cooperated with law enforcement.

Investigators are looking into whether speed and possible impairment contributed to the crash on the part of the Infiniti driver.

No injuries were reported among passengers on the Metro train.

Anyone with further information is asked to contact the Long Beach Police Department at 562-570-7355. Anonymous tips can be submitted through Crime Stoppers by calling 800-222-8477 or visiting lacrimestoppers.org.

Can You Claim Compensation in a Car Crash Involving a Government Vehicle?

Yes, you can seek compensation if you’re injured in a crash involving a government vehicle, including Metro buses or trains. However, the process is more complex than filing a typical personal injury claim because it involves government liability laws and strict deadlines.

If you were hurt or lost a loved one in a collision with a Metro train or other government-operated vehicle, you still have the legal right to pursue damages—but you must act fast. In California, claims against public entities like LA Metro must typically be filed within six months of the incident.

To increase your chances of a successful claim, it’s critical to consult a metro accident attorney in Los Angeles who understands how to navigate government-related claims and can fight for full compensation on your behalf.

If the crash led to a fatality, families may also be eligible to file a wrongful death claim. In these cases, wrongful death attorneys can help recover damages for funeral costs, loss of companionship, and other long-term impacts.Call Megeredchian Law at (866) 359-0807 for a free consultation.
