Chula Vista, California – Two people lost their lives Monday night following a car collision in Chula Vista.
The crash occurred just before 8 p.m. near the intersection of Apache Drive and Telegraph Canyon Road.
According to Chula Vista police, a white Subaru Forester was traveling eastbound on Telegraph Canyon Road and attempting to turn left onto Apache Drive when it was struck broadside by a red Ford Mustang heading west. The impact caused the Subaru to overturn, trapping its four occupants and prompting emergency crews to use the Jaws of Life to free them.
The Subaru’s driver, a 75-year-old man, died at the scene. A 76-year-old man riding in the front passenger seat was transported to a hospital, where he later died, authorities reported.
Two women in their 60s who were seated in the back of the Subaru were also taken to the hospital for treatment.
The Mustang’s driver, a 41-year-old man, stayed at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. Police said he was transported to a hospital with minor injuries.
