Westminster, California – A 39-year-old bicyclist was left seriously injured after being deliberately struck in a violent car attack in Westminster earlier this month.
According to the Westminster Police Department, the assault occurred at about 5 a.m. on September 12 in the 15300 block of Beach Boulevard. The victim was riding his bicycle when a driver suddenly attacked him with a vehicle. Authorities said the bicyclist suffered significant injuries as a result of the impact.
Police reported that the suspect, identified as 25-year-old Alexis Jareth Ruiz, allegedly confronted the man before the attack. After striking the cyclist, Ruiz crashed into a parked car while fleeing the scene. Officers later recovered the suspect’s vehicle about half a mile away the same day.
While prosecutors have charged Ruiz with attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon, police emphasized the focus remains on the recovery of the injured bicyclist. The victim’s condition has not been disclosed, but investigators noted he endured great bodily harm in the incident.
Authorities are asking anyone with additional information about the September 12 attack to contact Westminster Police Commander Andy Stowers at 714-548-3746.
