San Diego, California – Authorities have publicly identified 27-year-old Robinson Guarderas as the motorcyclist who was killed in a late-night crash last week on Interstate 805 in North Park.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Guarderas was riding south on the freeway shortly after midnight on Thursday when he lost control of his motorcycle near El Cajon Boulevard. He fell onto the roadway and was struck by several vehicles.
Emergency personnel responded to the scene, but Guarderas died at the site of the accident, officials said.
The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed his identity, and CHP public-affairs officer Kimberly Gonzalez stated that the investigation remains ongoing to determine what caused Guarderas to lose control of his motorcycle.
Who Is Liable When a Motorcyclist Dies After Losing Control and Being Hit by Multiple Vehicles?
Determining liability in a fatal motorcycle accident where the rider loses control and is struck by several vehicles can be complex. Even if the motorcyclist initially lost control, it doesn’t automatically mean they—or their family—are solely responsible for the outcome. California law allows for comparative negligence, meaning multiple parties can share fault.
For example, if other drivers were speeding, distracted, or failed to avoid the fallen rider, they may still be partially liable for the fatal injuries. Road conditions, vehicle defects, or unsafe roadway design can also play a role in assigning responsibility. This is why families of victims often turn to experienced wrongful death attorneys who understand how to investigate every possible cause of a tragic crash.
Skilled motorcycle accidents attorneys can work with accident reconstruction experts, eyewitnesses, and police reports to determine who should be held accountable. If negligence by another driver or entity contributed to the crash, the victim’s family may be entitled to compensation for medical costs, lost income, and emotional suffering.
