San Diego, California – Authorities have identified the woman who died following a crash on a downtown San Diego freeway connector earlier this month.
The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that 23-year-old Kaya Ray, a San Diego resident, was fatally injured when the sedan she was driving veered off the ramp from southbound Interstate 5 to eastbound State Route 94 in the East Village area.
The crash occurred shortly before 11 p.m. on October 6, when Ray’s vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree for reasons still under investigation.
Paramedics transported her to Scripps Mercy Hospital in Hillcrest, where she succumbed to her injuries two days later, officials said.
Authorities have not yet determined what caused the car to leave the road. The case remains under investigation by local law enforcement.
Is It Possible to Get Compensation After a Solo Car Crash Death?
Losing a loved one in a single-vehicle crash is devastating — and while it may seem that no one else is responsible, that’s not always the case. Families may still have the right to seek compensation through a wrongful death attorney in California if negligence by another party contributed to the fatal accident.
In many solo-car crashes, outside factors play a major role: defective vehicle parts, unsafe road conditions, poor signage, or negligent maintenance by a city or contractor. A qualified car accident law firm can investigate these details to determine whether a manufacturer, government agency, or private company may be held liable.
