Ramona, California – A 76-year-old woman died early Sunday after a car struck the three-wheeled mobility scooter she was riding along state Route 67 in Ramona, authorities said.
The crash occurred around 4:55 a.m. near Julian Street, when a northbound 2014 Toyota Camry hit the scooter from behind, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Jasmine Lopez.
The impact threw the woman onto the roadway. She died at the scene before emergency crews arrived. Her name has not yet been released, pending notification of relatives.
Lopez said investigators determined that intoxication was not a factor in the crash.
The collision remains under investigation by the CHP Ramona office. Anyone with information may contact Officer Jasmine Lopez at (619) 219-6900 or jasmine.lopez@chp.ca.gov.
Can You Sue After a Scooter Rider Is Hit and Killed by a Car?
When a scooter rider is struck and killed by a car, their family may have the legal right to file a wrongful death claim against the responsible driver. In California, surviving relatives — such as a spouse, children, or dependents — can pursue compensation for funeral costs, medical expenses, loss of income, and the emotional impact caused by their loved one’s death.
A wrongful death attorney in California can guide you through this process, ensuring that the responsible party is held accountable. These cases often involve complex insurance investigations and accident reconstructions, which require the experience of a qualified car accident law firm.
Even though scooters are smaller vehicles, drivers owe them the same duty of care as any other motorist. When negligence—such as distracted driving, speeding, or failure to yield—leads to a fatal crash, a California motorcycle accident lawyer can help families file a claim and seek justice.
