San Diego, California – Authorities have released the identities of six people who died in separate traffic accidents across the San Diego region over the past two weeks, including two pedestrians killed only hours apart on Saturday.
The most recent fatal crash occurred around 11:55 p.m. Saturday in the 3500 block of India Street in the Middletown neighborhood. According to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office, a vehicle struck Alexander Leroux, 57. Paramedics transported him to UCSD Medical Center in Hillcrest, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Less than six hours earlier, another pedestrian fatality was reported in San Ysidro. Around 6 p.m., a 2011 Jeep Liberty hit Eduardo Sanchez, 83, in the 200 block of East San Ysidro Boulevard. Police said Sanchez suffered a brain bleed, a pelvic fracture and other traumatic injuries. The San Ysidro resident was taken to UCSD Medical Center, where he died the following evening.
Earlier in the week, 21-year-old Esteban Rodriguez of Spring Valley died at about 5:30 a.m. Wednesday when the northbound sedan he was driving veered off state Route 125 near state Route 94 and crashed into a tree. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Another pedestrian, Guillermo Pagan, 55, was killed shortly before 4:30 a.m. on Nov. 20 when an eastbound SUV struck him as he walked along state Route 94 west of Hillside Drive in Jamul. Pagan died before first responders could transport him to a hospital.
On Nov. 19, Eleanor Anslow, 38, died in the San Carlos neighborhood after several vehicles struck her around 4:45 a.m. in the 7500 block of Mission Gorge Road. Authorities said she was in the roadway for unknown reasons.
The earliest fatality identified in the series occurred on the morning of Nov. 18 in Jamacha. Lucy Prewitt Starkes, 89, was making a left turn from westbound Imperial Avenue onto Viewcrest Drive when her Volkswagen Jetta collided with an oncoming Ford Excursion shortly after 10:30 a.m. She was taken to Scripps Mercy Hospital with extensive injuries, including brain bleeds and a cervical spine fracture, and died six days later at the Hillcrest trauma center.
